This is our commentary over our film. It answers the above question.
Production Companies
A production company helps to create the film. They look over the whole project from when it was just an idea to when it is finished completely. They assist with, budgeting (raising/funding the money for the production), scheduling, scripting casting and more. The production company has a lot of responsibility, including hiring a director and all of the actors required. However this responsibility also includes if anything goes wrong such as an actor getting injured or things being damaged. There are the 'big 5' film studios that produce, distribute and own cinemas. These are, MGM, Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, Paramount and Sony.Distribution Companies
A distributor has the job of selling and promoting the films to the audience. This includes the public and cinema owners. They have a few steps to follow in the distribution processes. Firstly, the distributors must decide how many copies of the film to make. This is followed by cinema owners etc viewing the filming then sending the film to cinemas shortly before the film opens in cinemas. After the public have viewed the film it is sent back to the distributor and payment is agreed.The distributor for our film would be Film4. They often promote and help low budget films such as ours and so this would be useful for our films promotion and introduction to the public. There is usually 16 and a half weeks between releasing a film in cinemas and releasing the film on DVD.
Funding
It is difficult for smaller, low budget films to find funding for the production of the film compared to Hollywood blockbusters as promotion and publicity isn't as mainstream or highbrow and the production companies for low budget films don't have the power that the big 5 do. Many production companies in charge of low budget films such as ours rely on 3rd party sponsorship, advertising and promotions.
Titles
1) Directed by: Faye Prout and Jared Taylor - myself and Faye were chosen as the directing role as we are both good leaders and had clear ideas of what we wanted doing. We helped each other over see the whole process from just an idea to the final product. We put this title first as we felt it was the most important title.
2) Produced by: Naomi Page and Faye Prout - We chose Naomi and Faye to be producers as we saw them as the most creative and responsible people in the group. We thought this would generate some good ideas for the film and make the film standard higher. We thought we should put this title next as the producer and director do work very closely together and are very important in the production of the film.
3) Filmed by: Faye Prout, Naomi Page, Jared Taylor and Ollie Aveling - All of the members in the group had an input into the filming of our film and so we included all of our names into this title. Having us all film is good as we all have different ideas and views that we can contribute to the final product. We put it third as filming the shots is a major part of the overall procedure.
4) Music by: Jared Taylor and Ollie Aveling - Myself and Ollie did a lot of research and hard work into finding the best pieces of music possible for our film. We had a group discussion before and then we reported back to the group with idea before going back to finding better music with the feedback. We put this title here as we feel music is an important aspect of modern films.
5) Edited by: Naomi Page, Faye Prout, Jared Taylor and Ollie Aveling - We all inputted into the editing of the media product as we felt this would be best as we all have different ideas and can help improve each other's ideas and get the best standard of media product we can as a group. Editing was put as the last title although it is a vital part of the production of our film.
